Function

 

Teriparatide stimulates bone formation and resorption, reduces the incidence of fractures in postmenopausal women, and increases or decreases bone density, depending on how it is administered. Continuous infusion resulted in a sustained increase in the concentration of parathyroid hormone PTH, and thus greater bone resorption than daily injection, which only caused a temporary increase in serum parathyroid hormone PTH concentration. In addition, this drug did not inhibit platelet aggregation in either the adenosine diphosphate or collagen-induced pathways.
